Elon Musk puts Tesla’s cars on autopilot in bid to drive change

Elon Musk is betting Tesla Inc. can drive a future where cars rarely need humans at the wheel, a goal he believes can help make roads safer and the vehicles more valuable to consumers.

The electric-car maker said Monday its Full Self-Driving package will be available for purchase in the U.S. and Canada for $10,000. The technology is already being used by about 60,000 Tesla owners in North America who are part of a testing program that started in October. Early versions of the software have been criticized for mistakes that have led to accidents, but Musk said Monday the system has improved significantly.
